A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist figurative composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

The composition is centered around a young male figure that punctuates the middle of the painting. He is depicted in an interior setting, seated beside a red chair, and we can discern some books on the platform beside him.

The facial features of the figure have been intentionally left out. The artist has taken a bold approach to its representational style, reducing the scene down to blocks of contrasting muted colours to demonstrate depth and form to the painting.

The use of muted colours as well as short expressive brushstrokes bring a soothing energy to the artwork, enlivening the scene and evoking a sense of playfulness and curiousity.

This oil on canvas is housed in stunning distressed style wood frame with an inner gilt window.  The painting has scattered areas of paint loss as shown in close ups but due to the expressive style of the piece, the losses don’t stand out. The frame is in good vintage condition.
