A serene and atmospheric mid-century semi-abstract composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

A body of water fills the foreground of the painting, serving as a mirror as it reflects the fragmented, impressionistic forms of the city and indistinct figures along its edge. The water’s surface is painted with loose, sweeping brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and fluidity.

In the middle ground, two indistinct figures traverse towards a bridge. In the background, the cityscape and foliage fill the canvas, their forms abstracted and simplified down into geometric shapes and overlapping forms.

The overall mood of the painting is contemplative – brought forth through the use of a soft and subdued muted colour palette as well as loose and expressive brushwork that evoke a sense of nostalgia.

This small but very effective oil on canvas is housed in a deep profile dark blue-grey frame with an inner silver border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
