A soothing and brilliantly executed seascape composition, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974) whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.

This scenic painting captures a view of boats in varying colours and sizes, docked by a port.

The artist has worked under a largely modernist ethos, simplifying the scene down to blocks of colours, using contrasting tones to create depth and space within the picture.

The painting has a soothing quality overall, brought forth through the use of a muted colour palette as well as smooth and gentle brushstrokes.

This oil on board is is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner cream window.  The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has a minor mark to its lower edge, as shown.
