A subdued and soothing mid-century landscape composition, executed of oil onto board and dated 1956.

Drawing on a distinctly modernist ethos, the artist has masterfully reduced this vast expanse of open fields down to blocks and planes of contrasting colour, and explores the use of colour and brushstrokes to create a sense of depth and space in this painting.

Short and expressive brushstrokes have been deliberately executed in a rhythmic manner, adding a touch of liveliness, and the use of subdued and muted pastel shades add a soothing quality to the artwork.

This oil on board is housed in its original mid-century gilt framed with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has a small area of discolouration to its linen border on the right side.
