An exquisite and brilliantly painted modernist style cityscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1959 on reverse.

This picturesque composition presents an architectural view of a city spread across a hill.

Painted with a distinctly modernist ethos, the artist has paid great attention to form, line and shape, and has made a conscious decision not to focus on realistic details as the buildings have been skilfully reconstructed the scene down to blocks of contrasting colours and the use of distinct and expressive brushstrokes.

The painting is a visual feast to the eyes, filled with a plethora of vibrant pastel colours, that imbues the work with a strong sense of liveliness.

Standing close to a meter in width, this artwork would make a statement piece to any interior space.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some minor scuffs.
