A charming and picturesque mid-century coastal landscape composition, executed in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The artwork portrays a figure on the left side of the composition, seated on a cliff surrounded by lush greenery, and admiring the view of the vast sea that stretches into the distance. In the background, the blue sky blends seamlessly with the sky into the distant horizon.

Painted in a semi-abstract manner, all realistic details have been omitted and there is a strong focus on colour and brushwork.

Gentle shades of light blue enhances the soothing quality of the scene, contrasting beautifully against rich and striking shades of greens and browns that add a touch of liveliness.

The artist has used a combination of expressive and energetic dabs of paint, as well as soft and smooth strokes. Overall, the painting evokes a sense of contentment and celebrates the beauty of nature.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with red undertones. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has scuffs and marks.
