Low Tide Serenity

An expressive mid-century coastal landscape oil composition dated 1946,  that captures a scenic composition during low tide.

A coastal walkway is presented at the left of the painting, and alongside its path are small quaint buildings that lead up to a lighthouse in the distance. Beyond the coast, a row of hazy mountains emerges in the distance, creating a sense of depth and mystery.

The colour palette of the painting is predominantly muted, featuring soft brown tones and gentle greys, and this subdued palette evokes a peaceful and soothing ambiance. The artist’s use of expressive brushstrokes adds an element of texture and movement to the painting.

This oil on canvas is housed in an attractive deep profile gilt frame, with cream and grey details. There are some signs of ageing to the painting, including a small area of craquelure, which is only visible upon close inspection. Otherwise, both the painting and frame are very good vintage condition.
