An expressive and atmospheric coastal landscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1949.

In this scenic composition, 2 houses are nestled on a landscape terrain with areas of greenery.  Beyond it, a view of a sea stretches into the horizon.

Rendered in an expressionist manner, the artist has skilfully layered planes of contrasting rich and earthy colours to create depth and interest within this panoramic coastal setting. The brushstrokes are short, swift and expressive, imbuing the painting with an uplifting quality.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary deep profile wooden frame. There is an area of light undulation to the canvas at the upper left section of the painting as shown, but the paint layer is stable. The frame has some wear and losses to the outer edges and corners as shown.
