A really fun and striking mid century modernist landscape composition with cubist elements, painted in oil onto canvas.

Here we see four figures on horseback by the coast, with an orange roof house to the left of the picture. The artist has very clearly focused attention on capturing the formal qualities (shape, form and colour) of the landscape and figures. We are made aware of the flatness of the canvas (a typically modernist ethos), as the picture is essentially a range of carefully placed coloured shapes, yet there is a still great depth to the composition. The colours are vibrant and striking, and the composition is balanced and very harmonious.

This oil on canvas is housed in a slim wooden frame, which complements the painting very well.  The painting and frame are both in excellent vintage condition.
