Don Quixote
SOLD.
Seemingly a nod to the Spanish novel Don Quixote, this delightful mid century narrative oil painting features a host of animals, people and objects, executed in a Naïve style.
The man on the horse to the bottom left, the house with the windmill, and the second man on the donkey (presumably), are perhaps all references to the first modern novel Don Quixote.
Putting aside the references, the painting is inherently a delight to look at – with a myriad of details and flying animals to admire in a very lovely colour palette. It speaks of a freedom to paint whatever one chooses, in a style that relinquishes all constraint that comes with art created within the traditional system.
It would make for a great statement piece, or even a playful piece for a child’s room.
The painting is housed in a lovely gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
Size: 49 x 63 cm (including frame)
