A beautifully expansive and panoramic mid-century landscape composition, painted in oil onto board.

A row of farmhouses stretch across the middle of the painting, in between fields in the foreground as well as fields that pan out into the distant horizon. We get a sense that the fields are never-ending, and that this calming scene before us goes on undisturbed for miles and miles.

Semi-abstract in nature, all realistic details have been omitted and the artist has reduced the scene down to planes of contrasting colours.  The artist has used a restrained colour palette, reserving the bolder greens and browns for the lower section of the picture, then getting increasingly lighter as he moves up the picture, until the sky.

The gentle brushstrokes bring forth a palpable sense of serenity and restfulness with this picture – the type of feeling you get when you’re out in the rural countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The painting is housed in its original mid century wood frame with an inner linen border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
