A very confident and well-executed modernist composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1974 on the reverse.

The artist has used a restrained palette as well as bold, expressionist brushstrokes to create this striking composition that depicts a figure standing amidst some houses.

With its intense, linear powerful outlines, an elongated figure, as well as the use of sombre colours that imbue the painting with an almost melancholic atmosphere, the painting is reminiscent of the post-war French expressionist artist Bernard Buffet (1928-1999), who was also painting around this time.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame and an inner gilt window. Both painting is in excellent vintage condition, and there are minor scuffs to gilt border of frame.
