An elegant mid century modernist interior composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1948.

This well executed composition depicts  a study in the foreground, with a doorway leading to a further sitting room, which then leads into a third room which appears to be a bedroom. The artist has captured the view through this enfilade, where the doors entering each room are aligned with the doors of the connecting rooms along a single axis, providing a vista through successive rooms. As viewers we appear to be within a room as well, as suggested by the edge of an entryway which frames the right side of the painting.

The artist has used a rich and earthy colour palette, imbuing the depicted interior with warmth, making the picture a very inviting one. The open doorways also add to this inviting characteristic, beckoning us to move through and explore each room.

This brilliant oil on canvas is housed in a complementary black wood frame with an inner and outer gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some wear commensurate with age.
