A large and brilliantly executed mid century landscape composition in oil, painted onto board.

There is a striking contrast between the top half and the bottom half of the composition, which makes this painting very interesting to admire. To the top half of the composition we have much shorter, softer brushwork, which give us a sense of the light movement and airiness of the sky. Punctuating the composition just off centre, is a standing tree, giving our eyes a point of rest, before we work our way downwards to the bottom of the composition. To the lower half, we see the use of much stronger, bolder colours as well as thicker and more textured paint application. Rather than painting the field realistically, the artist has reduced the details down to abstracted forms – planes and brushstrokes of earthy colours that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, successfully giving this painting its sense of space and depth.

The excellent landscape painting is housed in a stunning gilt frame. The paintings is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some very minor scuffs commensurate with age, which certainly do not detract from its overall attractiveness.
