An expressive and dynamic mid-century modernist abstract composition of nature that distills a vast landscape into bold planes of colour and a textured palette, painted in oil onto canvas.
The painting is structured around angular swathes of earth-toned fields – deep green, blues, whites and rust – intersected by a meandering dark line that evokes a path or stream. A central ridge of forested trees anchors the horizon, silhouetted against a brooding sky rendered in diagonal strokes of lavender, mauve, and blue.
Painted with vigorous, impasto brushwork, the surface is alive with energy. The artist’s crosshatched marks lend a sense of movement and seasonality, as though capturing the wind’s passage across the land. Edges are intentionally rough, revealing areas of white and giving the work an almost tactile sense of spontaneity.
This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited distressed wood frame with an inner white border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
