A striking and brilliantly executed mid-century modernist figurative composition, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish female artist Brita Hansson (1918-1979).

This captivating painting presents a vibrant and richly coloured portrayal of three tall figures. Against a black backdrop, the trio stands out dramatically, their semi-abstract forms evoking a sense of mystery and intrigue. The figures, adorned in elaborate and striking clothing, are carrying baskets on their heads. The artist has deliberately omitted realistic details, opting for a semi-abstract approach that places emphasis on colour and expressive brushwork.

The composition is a masterful display of the artist’s ability to layer contrasting shades through the use of short brushstrokes, creating a dynamic interplay that conveys both depth and visual interest.

This oil on board is is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner border.  Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
