Abstract Harbour

SOLD.

A striking and typically ‘mid century modern’ oil painting on canvas, painted around the 1960s. Bold, rich colours fill the canvas with lines and patterns, both straight and curved. Although an abstracted picture on the whole, we are just able to discern a harbour scene, with a line of boats docked one next to the other. The masts and sails are what form the majority of this composition – the artist has taken advantage the different shapes and patters formed by the masts and sails to create a painting with a largely modernist ethos, focusing on innovation and experimentation with form (the shapes, colours and lines that make up the work) with a tendency to abstraction.

The painting is housed in a gold painted wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some minor scuffs to the edges which are typical for its age.
