A Moment Together

An evocative and atmospheric semi-abstract figurative landscape painting that depicts three figures gathered in a sweeping green countryside, with rustic farm buildings nestled in the distance, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1989.

The figures, rendered in simplified, almost abstract forms, appear quietly connected, lending the composition a tender sense of intimacy and nostalgia.

The painting embraces a distinctly modernist aesthetic, with its flattened perspective and expressive handling of form. The figures are deliberately understated, their facial features loosely suggested rather than defined, allowing the viewer to focus on their relationship and the atmosphere of the scene.

A vibrant palette of grassy greens, soft turquoise, buttery yellow and muted olive dominates the landscape, beautifully contrasted against the figures’ delicate blush pinks, warm browns, creamy whites and touches of deep burgundy. A hazy grey-green sky and distant bands of dusky blue lend the composition a wonderfully atmospheric quality.

The artist’s brushwork is loose, confident and spontaneous, with broad, gestural strokes building up the landscape in sweeping passages of colour. Areas of visible texture and layered paint create a lively surface, while the figures are rendered with softer strokes. The resulting composition strikes a lovely balance between abstraction and representation, capturing the simplicity and beauty of an everyday moment.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary champagne-gold wooden frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
