By a Blue Bowl

At the centre of the composition sits a leafy green cabbage, surrounded by two golden-brown onions, a pair of vibrant orange-red tomatoes and a green pear. A striking cobalt blue bowl provides a beautiful contrast to the warm, earthy colours of the vegetables, while the soft folds of the white and pale blue cloth beneath them bring a sense of lightness to the scene.

What we particularly love about this painting is the artist’s confident use of colour and texture. Thick, visible brushstrokes give the vegetables a wonderfully tactile quality, while the simplified shapes and playful arrangement lend the composition a distinctly modernist feel. There’s nothing overly formal or fussy about it – just a lovely celebration of familiar objects, brought to life through colour and paint.

The unusual long, horizontal format adds to its charm, making it a particularly appealing piece for a kitchen, dining room or a narrow stretch of wall.

Presented in a vintage wooden frame with a soft grey finish and subtle gilt detailing, which complements the painting’s fresh, colourful palette beautifully. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
