A Pastoral Moment

A beautifully understated modernist abstract landscape oil composition dated 1987, and painted by the established Swedish artist Ture Fabiansson (1910-1994), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, The Museum of Art in Gothenburg, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and many others.

The painting depicts a tranquil landscape scene through an evocative arrangement of simplified forms, earthy colours and expressive brushwork. In the distance, a small group of grazing cattle occupies an open field, framed by the sweeping silhouettes of trees in the foreground. The composition is wonderfully abstracted, with broad, flattened shapes and gently intersecting planes lending the landscape an almost geometric quality. The oversized foliage creates a sense of intimacy, inviting the viewer to look beyond into the peaceful countryside.

The artist employs a harmonious palette of dusty terracotta, muted sage green, soft peach and earthy beige. Subtle variations in tone and colour bring depth to the composition, while loose, confident brushstrokes and areas of thickly applied paint introduce a lovely tactile quality. The restrained detailing and emphasis on shape and colour are characteristic of mid-century modernism, giving the painting a quietly sophisticated, timeless appeal.

This oil on canvas is presented in a slim wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
