The composition suggests a rugged, expansive landscape, with pale rolling hills or rocky slopes unfolding beneath a cool, open sky. Rather than describing the landscape literally, the artist breaks the scene into overlapping planes and gestural passages. Darker, more concentrated forms gather across the foreground, giving way to broad areas of sand, stone and chalky white that create a sense of distance and elevation.

Executed in a contemporary abstract-expressionist style, the painting has a wonderfully spontaneous quality. Recognisable elements of the landscape emerge and dissolve amongst angular lines and loosely defined shapes. The juxtaposition of sweeping passages with sharper graphic marks gives the composition both movement and structure.

The palette is predominantly soft and earthy, combining sandy beige, stone grey, off-white and pale powder blue. These muted tones are punctuated beautifully by vivid blues, dusty rose, deep charcoal and touches of forest green, bringing energy and depth to the otherwise restrained palette.

Brushwork is wonderfully varied and expressive. Broad, dry-brushed sweeps describe the open terrain, while quick linear strokes, scratches and more concentrated daubs animate the foreground. In places, thin lines cut across softer blocks of colour, creating an almost drawn quality and reinforcing the painting’s sense of immediacy.

This original artwork on canvas comes unframed but can be hung as is. It is in excellent condition.
