Open Doors to Summer

A wonderfully serene mid-century interior scene that captures the quiet pleasure of a sunlit room opening onto the countryside beyond,  executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition draws the eye through a pair of powder-blue French doors, thrown open to reveal a lush green landscape and a winding garden path bordered by wildflowers. Inside, a delicate white chair holds a small basket of freshly gathered blooms, while a hanging arrangement of blue, pink and violet flowers adds a charming decorative note. A softly striped rug in the foreground completes the scene, lending a sense of warmth and domestic intimacy.

Painted in a light, impressionistic manner, the artist favours atmosphere over precise detail. Brushstrokes remain visible throughout, particularly in the garden, where loose touches and dabs of paint suggest grasses, flowers and foliage.
