A large picturesque and restful winter landscape composition in oil, painted in 1955.

This mid century oil depicts a row of farmhouses in the centre of the composition, surrounded by snow covered land, and cloudy skies above. Gestural and textured brushstrokes fill the lower half of the picture, conveying the feel of fresh snow on the ground.  A three bar gate punctuates the right side of the picture, creating focus and direction for the viewer’s eye as well as a sense of balance to the overall image.

The painting is beautifully framed in its original mid century wood frame, which features a protruding border in dark gilt. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some general wear commensurate with age, but is very stable overall.
