A large and excellently executed semi-abstract mid century oil composition, painted onto canvas.
Depicted here are the outlines of several figures crowded together. The artist has applied a myriad of rich, saturated colours with confident and expressive brushwork. He has reduced the figured down to their formal elements – facial and physical details have been abstracted down to skilfully executed paint marks in various flattened shapes, forms and lines. There is wonderful movement, texture and dynamism to the piece.
The painting is housed in its original mid century frame which has multiple borders lined in different material. There is both a woven hessian section as well as a linen-lined section.
