A tenderly executed scene of 4 figures by townhouses, painted in oil onto board.

This mid century painting depicts three seated figures in the midst of sewing some white frabric, their backs against a white walled townhouse. A separate female figure holding a basket is also seen to the left of the composition.

The artist has left out any facial details, choosing instead to focus on the shapes, lines and forms of them. Expressive brushstrokes in non-representative colours have been applied to the canvas, creating this well balanced and very striking street scene.

There is something very restful about this piece, capturing the quiet life of a rural village and the daily activities of the people.

The painting is housed in a dark wood and gilt frame, and is in very good vintage condition. There are some minor scuffs to the frame that certainly do not detract from the overall attractiveness of the piece.
