A beautifully executed mid century modernist semi-abstract landscape composition, painted in 1951.
This large oil abounds with depth and texture. Layers of rich pigments have been applied in an array of multidirectional brushstrokes. Each stroke stands out from the other, and yet together they combine to make a perfectly harmonious composition. The artist has painted the landscape in a distinctly expressive and painterly style, encouraging us to enjoy every brushstroke and the creamy layers that have been applied, while still capturing the essence of the rich natural landscape.
The painting is housed in a deep profile champagne coloured wood frame, which brings out the colours in the painting perfectly and has an illuminating effect without being at all overbearing. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some losses around the edges, including an area to the lower edge which can be inspected in our close up photos.
