A large and confidently executed mid century semi abstract modernist composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

In this scene we see four main figures amongst a blur of people – the artist has left out realistic details, and focused instead on colour, form and texture. Broad, gestural brushstrokes in non representational colours fill the canvas, creating this expressionist composition. There is a distinct sense of movement in the background, with the 4 figures standing out within it, almost as if it could be a recollection of a memory or dream.

The surface is heavily textured, with areas of heavy impasto where the paint has been very thickly applied.

The painting is housed in its original mid century frame, with an inner linen lined border. There is some minor craquelure to the painting (as shown in close ups), due to the thickness of the paint. But the paint layer is stable overall. There is some minor scuffing to the frame. Neither of these signs of ageing detract from the overall attractiveness of the piece.
