A mid century fauvist style oil, painted in 1950. Reminiscent of works by artists such as Matisse, this painting emphasises flattened forms, intense colourism, and decorative pattern. Painterly qualities, fierce brushwork and strong colour have been favoured over representation or realistic values. Beyond the skilful execution, this painting has a wonderful playful feel to it. It would make a striking statement piece in any interior. The childlike nature of the colours could also make it very suitable for a child’s room or a nursery.
The painting is housed in a gilt frame, and both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
