A very unique and vivid mid century semi abstract oil composition, painted on board and dated 1964 on the reverse.
In this composition we see a vase of flowers which have been painted in a semi-abstract modernist style. The artist has intentionally chosen now to focus on the realistic forms of the florals, and has instead drawn attention to the shapes, colours and lines of the bouquet. Its formal elements are echoed in the background which appears to be the framework of a window, creating a really fun and striking picture. The bright colours contrast against the bold, black outlines and the starkly white vase.
This brilliantly executed oil on board is housed in a wide profile wood frame with decorative carvings. The painting is in good vintage condition, and the frame has some minor scuffing as shown.
