A stunning and emotive impressionist painting depicting a sunrise at sea, executed in oil in 1948. The artwork celebrates the beauty of nature, and is in reminiscent of works by British landscape painter JMW Turner.
Through the careful use of light and colour, the painting displays the artist’s desire to capture the natural atmospheric elements and movement of water created at that particular moment in time.
Combining both a warm and cool palette, one can notice warm light yellows and calming cool blues shifting across the painting. The effectiveness of lighting is achieved though the use of energetic and loose brushstrokes, invigorating the work a sense of dynamism.
This oil on canvas is in good vintage condition. There are light scattered areas of craquelure across the painting commensurate with its age, but the paint is in very stable condition. It housed in its original mid-century gilt frame that has light wear, but this is in keeping with its overall look.
