A large and very picturesque mid century modernist landscape in oil, painted in 1948.

This panoramic winter landscape captures the stillness and crispness of winter. A tall tree punctuates the centre of the composition, its reflection cast in the still icy lake in front of it. A couple of houses can be seen perched on the top of the hill, and behind them a far reaching forest that draws our eyes deep into the picture and lends a sense of depth. The balance and harmony of this composition is very well done, and the artist clearly has a fine mastery of his medium.

The painting is housed in a beautiful silver and gilt frame with a narrow green tinted edge in between them. There is also an inner cream coloured slip. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The inner section of the frame (the slip) has some paint loss (as seen in close up), but this is in keeping with its overall look.
