A delightful and lively picturesque landscape composition, executed in oil in 1948.
The painting depicts a partial view of a balcony overlooking a well-manicured garden filled with colourful blooms and lush trees, as well as views of the calm blue sea that lies beyond it. The white chair in the foreground as well as garden furniture in the middle of the painting are empty, almost inviting and tempting the viewer to take a seat and enjoy the charming spring view.
Executed with expressive and painterly brushstrokes in vibrant and saturated colours including green and orange, this artwork is sure to brighten any interior setting and uplift one’s mood.
This oil on canvas is housed in a beautifully patterned wood frame with carvings. There are light scattered areas of craquelure (fine cracks in the paint, commensurate with its age), as well as a small area of paint loss along the left edge of the work (as shown in the photos). Craquelure is not in itself harmful to the painting, and can add to the ‘quality’ of patina that only age can bring.
