Confident, expressionist brushstrokes in saturated colours and bold outlines depict this pensive picture of two figures standing at a railway crossing. We witness here an artist seeking oppositions of blue with orange, red and green, mustard and white, while skilfully combining these extremes without losing harmony within the picture. Within this almost ‘dirty’ palette, the artist and his energy comes through wonderfully.
The painting is housed in a distressed silver-grey wood frame with a deep profile, complementing the painting perfectly. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor areas of paint loss around the edges (as shown in photos) but because it is of a ‘distressed’ style these imperfections certainly do not harm the overall look of the framed picture.
