A beautifully executed mid century landscape composition in oil, painted in 1946.

Here the artist has worked in a post impressionist style, emphasising symbolic content, formal order and structure. Using non naturalistic colours to paint the landscape before him, the artist has used colour to incorporate an emotional and aesthetic response. The artist has also emphasised the paint on the surface of the canvas, flattening the sense of perspective through a lack of tonal modelling, and using planes and blocks of contrasting colour to create a sense of depth.

The painting is housed in a gilt frame that enhances the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
