A large and very pleasant modernist coastal landscape, executed in oil onto board and dated 1953.
This well-detailed composition presents a coastal scape that is lined with colourful huts and people by the shore, sail boats out at sea, and high cliffs in the background.
Painted with expressive and textured brushstrokes, the artist has skilfully used blocks of contrasting colours to reconstruct this scene.
A distinctly cool pastel colour palette has been used, and the plethora of colours not only imbue the work with liveliness but is also a visual feast for eyes.
The painting is housed in its original mid century deep profile frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition
