A vivid and striking mid century modernist still life, painted in gouache and dated 1957.
In this still life composition, a pipe, a bottle and a glass sit alongside a bowl of oranges on a dark blue surface, and with a colourful striped curtain hanging behind them.
The artist has used a mix of rich saturated colours and geometric shapes. The bold outlines as well as shadows wonderfully accentuate the three dimensionality of the objects.
This gouache on paper is set behind glass and within a card mount in a dark gilt frame with several inner windows. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has scuffing to its edges.
