A large and very well executed mid century modernist oil composition, painted onto canvas and dated 1962.
In this study of a nude figure, the artist has painted in an expressionist style, using broad and sweeping brushstrokes. The nude figure rests on a seat with a red covering, and echoed behind her is the same red fabric, presumably a curtain. The artist has intentionally left out any realistic details, focusing instead on the formal elements of colour, shape and form. The composition is very well balanced, and lighter pastel colours of the nude figure juxtapose brilliantly with the deeper and richer colours that surround her.
This large oil on canvas is housed in a very effective silver frame with an inner linen lined border. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
