A very pleasant modernist oil street scene composition, painted by the established Swedish artist Stig Wernheden (1921-1997), whose works have been represented at public collections in Sweden including the Moderna Museet, Malmö Museum, Snuff & Match Museum, Ystad Art Museum and Malmö City Hall.
The painting features a scenic neighbourhood setting lined with charming houses. Punctuating the middle of the composition, two figures are standing in the middle of the street, seemingly in conversation.
The painting evokes a cool and relaxing quality, brought through the use of soft and precise brushstrokes, as well as a soothing and gentle palette of predominant cool blue and grey tones.
This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited silver frame that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
