An exquisite mid century modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1946.

Characterised by a rich colouring and textured brushwork, this still life composition depicts a vase of lilac tulips on a dark wood table. The light and bright colours of the flowers, leaves and vase contrast wonderfully against the darker hues of the table and background. We see two deep navy blue pillows as well as a glimpse mahogany red one set behind the vase. There is a real sense of depth and richness to all aspects of the painting, from its composition to its texture and palette.

This oil in board is beautifully presented in a really lovely distressed wood frame which suits it impeccably. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has several areas of paint loss and general wear as shown in the close ups, but we think that this suits the style of it very well and shows off its vintage charm.
