A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

The composition depicts an interior setting where a table laid with objects takes center stage and serves as a focal point. A plate with a fruit sits on its left, and on its right, a bottle and some fruits lay on a white tablecloth strewn across the table. Behind the table, we can also spot a chair, and also what appears to be a window or a painting on the right.

The painting is a masterful display of rich colours, and showcases the artist’s skill in capturing the beauty of everyday objects.

A combination of lightly-textured expressive brushstrokes as well as a range of contrasting hues have been used to paint the objects, highlighting depth and their three-dimensional qualities whilst simultaneously emphasising the two-dimensional flatness of the canvas. The artist has also skilfully managed to capture the shadows of the objects, and we can infer that a light has been on.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame and with an inner linen lining. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
