In the Skiff

SOLD.

A double sided mid century modernist canal scene, painted in oil onto board.

On the front of the painting is a scene of three figures in a rowing boat, rowing past several houses with smaller boats moored in front of them. The artist has captured the effects of the sunlight beautifully, using short expressive brushstrokes in an array of colours to represent the reflection of the light on the still water. The yellow on the houses sits in perfect contrast to the blue of the water. The figures in the boat punctuates the bottom right corner of the composition, balancing the vivid composition perfectly.

This painterly piece also has a second composition of an elderly person in an interior on the reverse, as shown in the photos.

The painting is housed in its original mid century wood and silver frame, with an inner linen lined border. Both painting and frame are in good vintage condition.
