Horses on the Meadow

A beautifully executed mid century composition in oil, painted in 1949.

In this picture, we see a a group of animals including a horse grazing on the meadow. Long, gestural brushstrokes fill the canvas with thick paint, creating a wonderfully textured effect.  The artists skilful and expressive brushwork blends the paint beautifully to create the three dimensional forms of the animals. It is clear that the artist has incorporated more than just the visual scene before him – we get a sense of the way the light hits the meadow, the slight wind in the air, the movement of the sky above and the blades of the grass below.

This excellent painting is housed in a solid wood frame which adds to its ‘country’ appeal. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
