A large and atmospheric mid century composition in oil, depicting a coastal sunset in Rhodes, Greece.
Painted in an expressionist manner, gestural brushwork creates this picturesque composition of a coastal sunset. Two coastal rocks flank the left side and are painted in a reddish brown colour with orange highlights, signalling the beginning of the evening light. The sun can be seen in the middle of the composition, its rays reflecting off the calm water at low tide.
The painting is housed in its original mid century frame. The painting is in good vintage condition. The frame has some scuffs and surface marks to the inner gilt window, and the linen lined border has some age toning, as seen in photos.
