A very well executed and distinctly mid century modernist oil composition, painted onto board.

With cubist tendencies, the artist has fragmented the scene into a series of curved shapes and lines, almost as though we are looking at the scene through broken glass.  The structure of the nets that the fishermen are laying out continues into clothes of the men as well as the surrounding sea and sky. This modernist ethos focuses on formal qualities such as shape, line, form, colour and pattern. The recurring lines and patterns make it fun to spot particular details that could easily go unnoticed unless observed closely, such as  the birds in the sky as well as the boats to the left of the composition.

The painting is housed in a lovely wood frame with visible grain. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
