Farmyard Geese

This 1972 textile artwork is a charming and vibrant handwoven tapestry that captures a stylised pastoral scene with a distinctly mid-century folk-art feel.

At the forefront, a small group of white geese with orange beaks and feet stand together on patterned ground rendered in blocks of green, orange, grey, and ochre. Behind them, a traditional half-timbered thatched cottage is depicted in a highly geometric and simplified way—its yellow roof and blue-paned windows contrasting sharply against a bright cobalt-blue sky filled with rhythmic vertical strokes.

The composition is bordered by a narrow red frame and set against a neutral linen backing, giving it a crisp and contained presentation. The overall design is bold yet playful, with an emphasis on pattern, symmetry, and texture rather than realism.
