A very large mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1959.

In this large abstract composition we see a myriad of shapes coalescing and connecting to form a whole. The forms present seem to act on each other – putting pressure on each other, shrinking each other, enlarging another, as if the forms themselves were active participants. Each shape has a role in the total organism, each one is holding the other up, supporting the whole. As a result the picture has a palpable energy – the forms and shapes almost appear to be moving around the canvas, shapeshifting and amalgamating.

This large abstract painting is presented in  a grey mount and a champagne frame. There are some minor marks on the painting and mount.
