A mid century abstract modernist oil, painted onto canvas.

Large gestural brushstrokes in rich earthy colours of green, brown and yellow have been applied to the canvas, creating a composition that takes its inspiration from the landscape. The sweeping of the brush work adds to the emotive impact of the painting and brings our attention to the materiality of the paint and the physical movement of the artist’s hand.

The painting is housed in a simple gilt frame which plays off the colours of the painting brilliantly. There is an area of restoration to the top half of the painting, where surface paint loss appears to have been filled in (unless viewed closely, it looks like an area of impasto rather than a condition issue). There is light scattered craquelure present but the paint layer is stable overall.
