This calming mid 20th century oil on canvas depicts a scene of a Spanish village with a woman carrying a basket filled with fresh produce on her head in the foreground.

It is the break of dawn, and the lady has just completed her first round of transporting the freshly harvested crops from the highlands down to village below.

Despite the hardships of her livelihood having to balance a heavy load on her head through rough terrains, her upright posture with her hands on her hips exudes strength and pride, and an impressive sense of balance.

This artwork is painted by Swedish artist Tage Gavik (1914-1981); who has used distinct brushstrokes and contrasting earthy colours to give rise to the various forms in this painting.

In good vintage condition, and comes unframed.
