What is art for?

“Art doesn’t have to be difficult or inaccessible, and I hope to use this space to prove that..”

Hi, I’m Saira and I’ve worked in the art industry for several years now. I started my training from a curatorial angle and have worked in both public museums in commercial galleries. I’ve always taken a special interest in methods around making art more accessible and approachable, and have a strong belief that understanding (and collecting) art shouldn’t just be reserved for art historians or people with money.

The Discerning Palette is certainly a commercial venture, but when Shanti and I (founders of The Discerning Palette) started it we knew it would be important to us to also use it as a platform to spread our love for art. So even if you’re not interested (yet) in buying art, do read on for tips, tools and tricks on approaching and connecting with art.

We will be setting out to answer the question that for so long as been unaddressed: ‘what is art for?’, so that you and I no longer have to stand in front of a piece of art feeling bewildered, underwhelmed and inadequate.

Art doesn’t have to be difficult or inaccessible, and I hope to use this space to prove that.
