A large and brilliantly executed modernist style figurative painting, executed in oil onto canvas.
Set against a soothing lighter coloured background, the composition of the painting is punctuated by a group of tall figures in bold and striking colours walking by.
Painted in an abstract manner, the figures have been simplified and abstracted down to geometric shapes, painterly brushstrokes, and rich colours.
Expressive gestural brushstrokes fill the canvas, and the artist displays and an excellent use of colour. Although working with a limited palette including reds, yellow and orange, he has skilfully applied and layered lighter and darker hues of each colour to create a harmonious, lively and well-balanced painting.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. There are some minor scattered areas of craquelure across the painting commensurate with its age, but the paint layer is in stable condition overall.
